What kind of glue?

I have made some ceramic tile coasters for Christmas gifts and just need to glue the cork on the back of them. What kind of glue should I use? I bought the cork on a roll. Right after I got home with it I read that somewhere you can buy cork tiles with pre-stick stuff on them that fit right on the backs of the tiles. If I remember correctly, they found them at Home Depot or some place like that. We do not have one of those here where I live. If someone has found them at other stores like Wal-mart, please let me know. Otherwise I will have to resort to glueing the cork on the back. Therefore I will still need some suggestions for the type of glue I should use. Thanks much for you rinfo girls.

Gorilla Glue would work you can find that at Walmart

I use a glue gun to adhere the cork. You just have to be fast!

I think I have used Rubber Cement before but also found the self sticking cork(pre-cut for coasters) at Hobby Lobby.

Has anybody ever ordered the self adhesive cork tiles online? I think that's what I'd really prefer doing. We do not have a Hobby Lobby either. Just a Menard's and I am pretty sure they don't have them there.

Was at my Hobby Lobby yesterday and I didn't see them any more..not even a space for them. Maybe you could Google self adhesive cork and find a place to order from.

I use the cork shelf liner that already has adhesive on it and it works PERFECTLY. Just cut it in squares to fit If you havent bought the cork yet this is a good option. They sell it at Lowes, Home Depot type stores!

Does the shelf liner have a little density to it or is it real thin and smooth? I have been trying to find a place to order the pre cut self adhesive ones but can't find them anywhere.

It is as thick as the cork on some coasters that I have that I purchased at a store. The ones that I have are those "absorba-stone" type coasters, have had them for years and this cork that I got at Home Depot is just as thick, not any thinner. I believe the roll is around $9.00 and you can cut a lot of squares out of it! It isnt like normal shelf liner that is like a thick plastic paper basically, it is like normal cork with a sticky back. If I were at home (not work) I could look at them and measure exactly for you, sorry.

I get the precut squares in a 12 pack at Ikea. I attach them with plain Tacky Glue, it's worked for me. I stack them as I go, so the weight is on them as they dry.

I use the little round circles of cork that come pre-sticky. They are used to put on the bottom of lamps and other table top items and they are ususally in the lamp section. I also found some at the dollar store (yippe). They don't cover the entire surface but still do the trick. I up them in the four corners of the coasters. I've also used the felt circles also. Sorry that doesn't help your glue situation but perhaps you could punch out circles and run them through the krylon.

I used ModPodge & felt, but I think it would work with cork as well.

Just a little hint about using a hot glue gun and cork. Put the glue on the cork first. Apply pressure quickly when putting the cork on to the tile. The tile is cold and will harden the glue before you get the cork on. Wish I had known about the shelf liner stuff beofre I bought a whole role of cork.

I found some that I think will work at containerstore.com. It is the selfadhesive cork shelf/drawer liner. I have used it in my kitchen drawers before and love it, but I have never thought about using it for tile coasters.

I used rubber cement and it worked fine, I just had to put some weight on the tile until it dried, as the cork was rounded from being on the roll.

My husband used spray adhesive on the ones we did and it worked great.

I have used rubber cement. I also have used the pre-glued felt squares/circles you can get in just about anywhere by the screws and picture hanging stuff.

I don't even use the cork. At most hardware stores or stores such as Wal Mart you can buy the felt underlays for under lamps, furniture etc and they come with the glue backing and also come in a variety of shapes and thicknesses.

The first time I made these I used Gorilla Glue and it worked just fine, but I had a hard time with the tube. So the next time I made them I used Crystal Effects and it worked even better. So I always use Crystal Effects now.

I used E6000 for glueing felt on my tiles. Takes overnight to dry, but I think it is pretty waterproof. I tried to match the felt with the colours in the tiles. The E6000 is really smelly and it took a little while to air them out-like about a week. First time I have tried this and it was pretty easy.

I use self-sticking felt from Jo-Anns. Just cut to size, peel and stick. It doesn't get any easier than that!

How does the self-sticking stuff work if it gets wet (spills)? The E6000 is not the most fun to use

I must be an oddball, I use left over squares (that I cut) of our rubber from the stamp sets. It's non-skid, has adhesive already on it, and it's free!!!
Has anyone else tried this, or am I the only one??!!

I've heard (on here) of people using the left-overs from stamps in making dimensionals

I cut the cork to fit then run it through my Xyron with the permanent adhesive. I have a set that we have used daily for 2 years and none of it has come off even a little bit.

I just saw a post about using self-stick felt, but I wanted to post a warning. I have a friend that used this on hers, but they had a spill and the felt got wet and it bled the color from the felt and ruined her table, so BE CAREFUL!

another question here about these tiles. Those of you that use the Crystal Effects: What is it that you do exactly? Make little puddles of this stuff in the corners. Or just use it as a glue to glue the cork pads on to the tiles?

I tried hot glue (didn't move fast enough, even putting the glue on the cork) and mod podge (not patient) and finally used spray adhesive.
