So I seem to go through blades on my fiskars cutter like crazy! I even tease that I have an "auto distressing" machine. Cut your paper with my fiskars cutter and you have instant distressed edges! I bought my current blade about a month ago and it is shot already.
My confusion also stems from the fact that this seems to happen to ALL my cutters- I can't remember all the kinds I've had, but I know I've used at least 4 brands and they all seem to get used up fast. Even my rotary cutter is getting a bit sloppy. Am I just overly agressive? How long do the blades last on your cutters? Who has the best long lasting blades? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I have the same problem with my fiskars. I have finally given up on it and use one from creative memories. So far, I haven't had the same problem with the blade.
I have several cutters, and they have lasted a very long time. I only cut one piece of cardstock at a time. For 17 years, I worked in a school, and found that when people cut several sheets of paper/cardstock at a time, the cutter no longer cut easily and accurately. I'm not trying to accuse anyone, but am just making a comment on my own experience. I'd love to have one of those new cutters, but have to wait for mine to give up before I can replace them.

I'm not a big fan of the guillotine cutters- I don't know why. They seem clunky to me.... maybe I just haven't used them enough. So Nancy- what's the V on the V-blade for? Has the one you used stood up well?
I didn't know about the multiple sheets thing- I'll try not to do that to mine in the future! I like using my rotary cutter for stacks of CS, so maybe that's why that blade seems to be going quickly as well :( I don't make that many cards! lol! Just seems like when you plunk down 20, 30, 50 bucks for a cutter the blade should last for more than a month :( Interested to here more about our V-cutter Nancy- I haven't known anyone that's used one before. I did just get a pair of Tonic scissors from a friend and I really like them! Hopefully the cutter works as well!

I know you said you didn't like the guillotine style cutters, but I got the Purple Cow one at Costco and have only used it a few times, but I love it so far compared to my big Fiskars one.

You and I must have twin cutters seperated at birth. LOL ;)
I had joked about having a great edge distresser too! Drove me crazy!
I finally bought the Tonic guillotine 12x12. It is big. Not portable.
I am getting the Tonic one TAC sells that Jeanstamping2 talked about. Great cutter! I used it at TACs Seminar, and I fell in love!! It is smaller and portable.
My Carl rotary cutter was giving me distressed edges and I kept changing the blade every few days thinking that was the problem but then one day I happened to look at the hard plastic strip that the blade hits when it cuts through the cardstock and discovered my problem. There was a rut worn into the plastic strip so the blade no longer met the same resistance when it cut along the paper. I must have been crushing the paper into the groove because once I turned the strip over and the surface was brand new, the auto-distress feature turned off!
I have the very hard to buy/expensive Genesis Paper Trimmer. There is a long waiting list, it costs over $200, but uses no plastic. It is a metal rotary blade cutting up against a metal plate. It also only cuts 1 sheet at a time, so it has drawbacks. However, I've used mine for several years and never replaced the blade. www.bonniesbest.com is the only place to order one.

I bet that's the problem with my rotary!! I don't think I've thought to flip the strip in... gosh... a long long time Thanks! It sounds like the tonic trimmer is a clear favorite as well- I guess I'll add one in to my next order

I did use the Fiskar cutter until and was not satisfied with it I now have a Making Memories self sharpening blade cutter and love it. I bought it at AC Moore with a 50% coupon only payed $25.00 for it.
I LOVE Stampin' Up's table top cutter, I lovingly call it my "ka-chunk"...I've had lots of people order these from me & they are all happy with them. Measuring is so easy & sharpening not required. It's also safe, I would have cut my fingers off by now if it wasn't! It also is portable with the ruler & handle fitting into the back so you can take it anywhere. Since I have had mine, my little Fiskar slider stays in the closet. So there's my 2 cents!
Hope this helps, good luck!

I have a Boston 2612.... don't know how I lived without a guillotine cutter for so long. Crisp clean cuts every time! It does take up a little extra room on my table but considering how much cardstock it's saved it's worth it.
I have a wonderful guillotine Fiskars cutter that I bought at Sam's a few years ago fo $25. THen I saw the SAME cutter at M's for $74.95. It's a great cutter and cuts cleanly every time. I had a small cutter with a blade that someone gave me as a gift - it was truly awful!

The SU table top guillotine cutter is made by Tonic. I have the Tonic (orange) version and I love it. The blade is self-sharpening. I didn't think I would like a guillotine cutter but now that I have it I love it. It is portable enough although I still take my fiskars in my bag when I am on the go.
I just bought the Tonic Guillotine cutter also. After going through half a dozen other types and never happy with the cuts I can now say I am happy with my cutter!! The guillotine takes some getting used to but it's soooo worth it!

I love, love, love mine!!! Got it from SU! I even took mine to convention to work on swaps in my hotel room. It's that portable and not too heavy and cut smooth, even tiny strips of cardstock. Just my two cents!

I own the SU table top cutter and love it, so lightweight and portable, BUT for big projects with LOTS of cutting I swear by my Carl Cutter. I have the 18" so that I can cut a 12x12 on the diagonal if I want to. And here's the thing... I've owned it for 5 years, cut literally hundreds of thousands (or more!) pieces of heavy weight card stock and have NEVER changed the rotary blade. The long blue strip that goes under the blade has been flipped around and flipped over and replaced twice. That's it. That Carl Cutter owes me nothing. It has more than paid for itself in the last five years by the time it has saved me.
Barbie,
I'd love to tell you, but I lent my new TAC catalog to a friend last night and she called me this morning to say that she is holding it hostage for a couple more days! I've been trying to study it because I'm thinking about becoming a demo, so this is killing me!
I know it's towards the back with the accessories.

I totally whole heartedly agree with this. I love LOVE mine! I wasn't quite sold on it till my friend let me use her's one day at her house. It was on my first order when I resigned a demo. Don't know how I ever lived without it! :-D
