Just wanted some feedback on whether or not the xyron machine is worth purchasing. I've noticed quite a few projects that call for the xyron, but I keep putting off making the investment. If it is worth it, which one is the best one to buy? Thanks in advance for your help! ~Erin
I would also like to know???? I want to do some altered scrapbooks and the directions say to use the xyron machine--but I would need to buy the biggest one, to put adhesive on a 6-8 inch wide cover. It is $100 at our local craft store ( I can use a 40% off coupon), but it is still a lot of money! I did buy a Xyron Cheetah--it applies a 4 inch wide strip of permanent adhesive. I'll let you know how it works!
I really love my little Xyron (2.5"), but I'm not sure I'd spend much money on a big one...the refills are not cheap! For some techniques that need larger all-over adhesive, I just use adhesive sheets.
Erin, I just noticed you were in Ashland, OR. My husband used to do planned giving/foundation work at SOU! We lived in Medford (1996-2000)...always loved Ashland, though!
Well, I have the 500, 510, 250 and 2 of the 150's. and the one for 8.5x11 sheets of paper. I use the 510 and the 250 the most for cards. The 500 didn't work well for me. And the bigger one I use mostly for laminations. The 150 is good for Sizzix abc's and other small items. I wouldn't be without them. I got all of mine at Michaels with a 40% off coupon at different times.
I watch for the refills on sale.
I used mine for christmas cards this year and it sure made the assembly a breeze. I just own the card-sized one...don't pay full price, use the coupons as suggested. I don't use mine that much, but I'm always so glad that I have one for larger projects. Well worth it!
I have the 250 and 505...love them both. The 5 inch one is great for card faces, and the 2.5 inch is good for card making..you never worry about those cards falling apart! Of course, I also got them with coupons, also for the refills, or I watch the sales..always try to have an extra on hand. Well worth the money , in my humble opinion.....
I have the 510 and use it all the time. I like the versatility of the 510 (over the 500) because it allows you to do things like laminate, laminate on one side and adhesive (or magnet) on the other... I also use it when I want to use glitter on an expanded area on a project -- it has a perfectly smooth area of adhesive for that!
I have the 500 and find I like to use it when I have cut out intricute items that I want to adhere to something else or when I want to glitter the whole piece. I don't use it for normal layering because of the cost of the cartridges. 18' for $15 less any coupons you have.

I was just using my 510 tonight to laminate a larger piece of paper. Use the little 150 all the time for doing letters, buttons, ribbon, any smaller pieces for cards or scrapping! Love them both (and certainly didn't pay full price for either of them)!!

i have a small one and the 510. i do love them, but only use them when i need adhesive over the whole area because of the cost of the refills. but they really are great products. i wouldn't get one bigger than you think you will need, or you just waste a lot of the adhesive, which as i said, gets expensive in a hurry. i bought my 510 first, and then got the little X sticker maker one for little things so that i wouldn't be wasting...
it is great to put dazzling diamonds over a whole area beautifully!

I have 3 Xyron's... The 150 or X xyron; the 250 and the 500. I would say the 250 is my favorite. Seems to be just the right size for me. Would not give it up to anyone.
I use the little 150 all the time. I don't use my 510 that much for adhesive as I do for laminating and making my photos into magnets. I just discovered a product (that has probably been around for many years) in the artist section of the local craft store. It is call Dry Bond Adhesive. It comes in pads of 25, 11 x 17 sheets. It is archival safe and recommended for edge to edge adhesive coverage. The adhesive is between waxy sheets. You just lay your cs (or whatever you want) onto it. Pull it up and you have adhesive. You can see what you've used and not used because of a very lightish tint. I like this concept because you can use all of it easily unlike the unused bits that sometimes result with xyron cartridges. I've only just started using this sheet adhesive.

XYRON
I have the 1 inch( was a gift from my daughter, she is always finding ways to make it easier for me) andthe 2 1/2 inch one and anything can become a sticker...I do not use a lot but it is great to adhere your own letters that you cut out of pictures or and small hard to stick things... I may not use it a lot..but very happy I have it when I do
I have the X box & the 250 and LOVE them both. I am cheap so I put things through side by side to keep from wasting adhesive. Like ribbon....I put a couple pieces through next to each other at one time. Hope that helps!

I got the 900 for Christmas a year ago and have never taken it out of the box. I think I am intimidated by it. I know the cartidges can be expensive so I am scared to waste any of it.

I have the 510, got it as a gift from my DD. She also got me all the refill cartridges that can be used with it. I am ashamed to say that I have not even tried it yet! (Had it for over a year and it is still on the shelf).
I have the X and the 510. The X is really handy for smaller things, like narrow strips of cardstock or Sizzix letters. Or sometimes for Sizzix letters I run the cardstock through the 510 first and then cut the letters out of it.
My favorite non-crafty use for the 510 is to adhere mailing labels to packages. I often print labels from usps.com, and they don't like you to put tape over the delivery confirmation part, so the 510 works perfectly for them.

I have the 510, I think. I am interested in this dazzling diamonds idea. I can't picture just how you would do this. Can you elaborate? Thank you. I have DD coming in my next order, and I have lots of Xyron cartridges from coupons. I need to use some of them!!!!
lynnewithane - i get the sticky stuff all over the TOP of the image (instead of the back like a sticker) and peel off the paper backing stuff. then I pour the DD all over it. You can still see your stamped image through the DD, but it is all sparkly and beautiful! So simple, but every time I have given someone a card that has a large piece on the front done this way, they always ooh and aaah over it.
you will want to make sure it is trimmed to the size you want before sending it through the xyron - it is hard to cut after the xyron glue and DD are all over it... anyway - hope this helps with your question....

I have the 510 and the 900 and use them all the time. I try to get refills when someone has a 40% coupon. It's great for assembling a lot of cards or things that are intricate and need to have adhesive all the way around. Also very good for lunch box tins. I use the big one for laminating Inspiration sheets and anything else I want to keep. Can't imagine living without it!

I just bought the "X" (150) for $5 CAD at Zellers. (they were marked down from 17.97 to 11.00 to 5.00!) I think the refills might cost more than this so I might go back and buy the whole machine for the adhesive!
It is perfect for paper piecing. Just stamp you image on different pieces of colored paper, cut out, run through the Xyron, peel off the paper backing and stick on the card. Very easy, a first grader could do it!!

WHAT?????????????????????? I'm on the fence with the Xyron but would definately get one for that price.

I have the 150 and the 510. I use them all the time and not usually for scrapbooking stuff! With two kids, and one of those in scouting, there always seems to be some project that they need something done on one of the two Xyrons I have. I have the adhesive cartridges, the laminating and magnet ones for the 510. My husband is a scout leader and he's always asking me if I can use them to make something cool for him to use on one thing or another. One of these days, I'll actually get to use them for just me! I always wait until the cartridges go on sale for 40-50% off at Michaels which seems to be on a regular basis.
Don't be afraid of it!! Last time I looked, mine didn't have any teeth to bite! Here is a card that I made using mine.
Your card is beautiful. I might get brave and try it pretty soon. I have 2 cartridges. One I found at Target for $3 on clearance which I thought was weird but I grabbed it not knowing for sure what it was only that it would fit in my machine. I think it's laminating.

I found my 150 at Walmart for $8...use it to stick on little things like the flower from the Looks Like Spring punch, or alphabets. I don't use it ALL the time, but I'm glad I bought it =)
I have the 900 and the x one. I love the 900! I am constantly using it. Love it for paper piecing and doing mass cards. It really speeds the process up. I also love using it for the tins. And I just ran out of myu adhesive. Trip to the store is in order!
I have an 850 - I know it is an antique. I also have a 510. I use the 510 much more. I use it for card making. I use the repositionable adhesive. I figure for a card it does not have to last for hundreds of years. That way when I am making the card if something isn't layered correctly in can carefully be removed and repositioned.
My daughter has borrowed both of my machines for school things. She is homeschooling this year and does not have access to a laminator at school. I was glad I could be of help for my grandgirls.
