101 Days of Summer: Beach Balls, Towels & Cool Blue Water (101DOSF)
Title: Beach Balls, Towels & Cool Blue Water
Hostess: Valerie ~awjmgmom~
Keyword: 101DOSF
Day/Date: Saturday, May, 30/09
Time: 2:00 (EST)
Posting a little early as ds needs to go down for his nap and ds1&dh are going to the movies
My challenge is a scraplift of a challenge that I participated in earlier in the year. It is very fitting for the 101 DAYS of SUMMER though so here goes. This challenge is a recipe challenge:
You need to scrap a page or lo with the following elements:
Circles - to represent beach balls
Stripes - to represent beach towels
Something transparent or a cool shade of blue - to represent the crystal clear waters of the beach
As you can see, summer pics aren't required (although he's a May baby). The idea is to get thinking about summer and to challenge yourself in a new way.
Can't wait to see what you come up with!
UPLOADING INSTRUCTIONS:
1. All VSBN creations must be uploaded by 10:00 PM EST on Saturday, June 6th
2. You have 2 hours to complete the challenge.
3. Please remember to put in the correct keyword, 101DOSF, when uploading your image. Copying and pasting the challenge keyword is recommended to avoid typos.
Remember to come back to this thread and post a reply with a link to your page.

btw - there is a transparency over the big pic in my sample (see the little stars). You could use a transparency, vellum, or even a piece of packaging that you can see through in stead of blue. The original challenge that I did required transparency, but because we did this quickly without a supply list ahead of time, I added the blue as an option!

I prefer flexibility as 1) I don't scrap in order & 2)my pics are all sitting in my computer at the computer repair place that informed me after 1wk 1day that the only person that could fix it is on vacation....
I'm using dh macbook this weekend and in the evenings.

I have my papers ready & laid out...painting gesso on chipboard...before I smoosh the chipboard in craft ink. I'm hoping the gesso will help it hold the color I want it to hold.

I don't own any gesso - not sure how to use it. I've got some flocking I won that I need to crack open some time and try out!

gesso and smooshing sounds fun!
I have to head out to the garden for a few. see you soon.
speaking of gardening... my ds planted some old bean seeds over Spring Break (April) and we've been growing them in pots inside. We didn't realize they were the pole beans that climb! (they are now attaching themselves to things in the family room....) and yesterday beans appeared!

LOL!!!! How funny...better take a pic before putting outside. Sounds like a great 'Jack and the Beanstalk' page ;-)

What's that? Yep, I live under a rock!!

I think it's a primer of sorts. I bought some and have used it. It goes on white and it helps prevent your acrylic paints and other mediums from being absorbed into the surface you're coloring. I'm not an art expert, but that's what I think it is.

would modge podge do the same thing if you let it dry?

I saw a layout in a Scrapbooks, etc magazine that would be perfect for this pic I have. Some papers, this challenge, that layout, that pic...it's one of those things where everything just fell in place. ;)
I'm sure there's lots of things to use gesso for...I'm currently just using it to coat naked chipboard so it will hold craft ink.
Bust out the fun flock! :-D It's fun. I call it expensive colored dust bunnies. :p

That's kind of cool! Y'all gonna keep it in the house or put the plant outside?

My dh and ds were supposed to plant them outside last weekend, but THAT didn't happen. DS is getting lazy on watering them so they'll either die or come close to it. It's still pretty cool here at night so planting them outside is a risk.

I'm thinking I may have to resort to making choc pudding cuz that's all I think I have left in the house. Dh found my mini stash of choc chips last nite and put them on ice cream :(
I've heard that tea relieves the same need... gonna try that

You'll have to share what Scrapbook etc lo you were looking at. That's become my fav magazine and I use their website all the time. Used it yesterday for the page I'm about to post.
oh and I'm not sure I can handle anymore dust bunnies at my house.... (my colored ones were a freebie when I won a contest though yoooo hooo)

I don't think so. With modge podge, you are sealing. With gesso, you are preparing a surface to apply another medium.
I use modge podge on surfaces like altoid tins before I paint though too so that the paint adheres. I think I have a sealant in my cab, but I thought it was for after the process. I'll need to take a look.
