I have been wanting to try something like this since I got my Weathered bg stamp, but I couldn't figure it out. The cardboard (which I never would have thought of and I tore off my DD's Pull-Up box as DH watched in confusion) was just the thing! I stamped the Weathered bg on the cardboard with versamark and then used clear ep. Then I used my white craft pad, DTC (direct to cardboard) to coat and then smudged it around with a paper towel. Then I cut it into strips and glued it down overlapping like siding. I kept the rest simple bc I got "Stamping-block" after that! LOL! Sorry the scan is so bad - my scanner has blurry spots.

Amy showed this to me the other night at S-10. It is probably the most unique thing I've ever seen. I honestly thought it was wood. What a great job you did, Amy! I wish everyone could see it in person!!!
