This card was made as an inspiration card for a sketch card challenge. I also wanted to try a technique I'd seen demonstrated by Jennifer McQuire called "stamped paper piecing" (https://www.jennifermcguireink.com/2...unt-code.html). The technique involves stamping your image on pattern paper, then cutting it out with a die for paper snips.
I used this technique for the green strips of "sky", and for the jack-o-lantern. The green paper is actually a light green pattern of paisley shapes from a Stampin' Up! (SU) 6" paper stack that is at least 10 years old. I used two different cloudy night skies stamps that I stamped two across and three down on the pattern piece, then trimmed three 1" strips. The jack-o-lantern was done by stamping the jack-o-lantern face first with black ink onto the same orange pattern paper I used for the background of this card, then stamped again with Versamark, and dusted with clear embossing powder before heat setting. I then fussy cut the jack-o-lantern out. I did the same thing with his stem on green pattern paper.
The sentiment was a bit more tricky since the stamp is a solid black circle with the word "spooky" uninked in the image. So, I stamped him MANY times onto white cardstock using my SU Stamparatus stamp positioning tool. Solid black is so hard to achieve unless it's stamped multiple times. I didn't have room for a circle, so I used my paper trimmer to cut off the bottom and top parts of the stamped circle, then a circle die to cut the sides. I felt the eyes under the word weren't prominent enough, so use white liquid enamel to go over them, then after the white had dried, used small dots of black enamel to add the eye centers. I thought this looked more spooky and matched the theme of the card MUCH better!
The black banner was cut as a strip on my paper trimmer, then the bottom tailed end was hand cut.
The card was assembled with glue as normal, but to make the pumpkin circle stand out, I diecut three more circles of gray cardstock, and glued them in a stack behind the cloudy gray piece. I did the same for the jack-o-lantern, but fussy cut each of the 3 layers since I didn't have a matching die.
I am rating the difficulty of this card as a "2" out of a possible "5" because of the need to do repeat stamping of the moon and clouds using stamps that weren't really designed for repeat stamping. I liked using the "pattern paper piecing" technique, and plan to use it again in the future!
