Wow. . . they got married at such a turbulent time. That would have been one day after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, right? I can only imagine the mixed feelings - so sad for the country, so happy to be starting a new life. . . I'll bet that was a VERY emotional day. (I shouldn't assume they were married in the US, though, should I?)
What a beautiful remembrance of their special day.

Yes, it was in the US and the day after Pearl Harbor. My dad always said "If the world was going to fight they might as well get married and fight too". He was such a funny guy. I miss him terribly.

It sounds as if your dad had a wonderful sense of humor. Enjoy these fond memories you have of him, and of your mom, too. I think it is terrific that you honor them with a beautiful handmade card on their anniversary, even now.
