Copic Bleed Technique
by Kathy Racoosin
Let alcohol ink bleed through a coloring book page for a bonus colored sheet.
Supplies
- Cardstock (alcohol marker compatible, white Neenah Classic Crest used here)
- Coloring book with thin pages (Pocket Posh Vintage Designs used here)
- Alcohol markers (Copic Markers and Copic Various Ink used here)
- Other pens (Uni Ball Signo Gel White pen, Memento Tuxedo Black marker and Sharpie Fine Tip black marker used here)
- Clips to hold papers together
- Other supplies as needed to complete the project (used here: die cutting machine, scrap cardstock in blue and black, Simon Says Stamp “Smile Circle” and “Stitched Circle” dies, Ranger Glossy Accents, scissors, foam tape, Post-It note paper, paper piercer, cloth rag)
Step-by-Step
-
Step 1
Select a coloring book with thin pages, or print a coloring page on text weight paper. Cut cardstock to fit behind the coloring area.
-
Attach the cardstock behind the selected page with paper clips. Mark off any areas that will not be colored.
-
Step 2
Start coloring using a Copic marker or a “juicy” marker that will bleed though the page. (Do not move the cardstock under the page.)
-
Keep coloring until all the white spaces are colored.
-
Step 3
Take a peek to see how the “bleed-through” is working.
NOTE:
Check for open areas. -
Step 4
Add more color as needed.
-
Admire your coloring and the bleed through design.
-
Step 5
Trim both of the panels to size.
-
Step 6 (Optional)
Enhance your coloring with some white gel pen accents.
-
Use a fine tip marker like a Sharpie to trace over the lines or to darken any faded lines in the coloring.
-
Step 7
Prepare the panels for card fronts.
-
Embellish as desired.
-
Step 8
Complete the cards.
