I'm pretty sure that on some products that had to do with glass I had to clean the glass with alcohol first to get all of the oils off I have never tried the rub ons though hope it works for you good...

if you or someone you know has a scanner/printer can't you just scan a crayon wrapper then print it out to the size you need? I've never tried it so I'm kinda wondering if that would work-
