This was for a recipe swap -- it's a recipe for Christmas Glogg -- a holiday tradition with my mom who is big into wine -- it's a nice gift bottled up!
Here is the recipe if you want it:
SPICED CHRISTMAS GLOGG
(Swedish Mulled Wine)
12 whole cloves
10 whole cardamom pods, opened and slightly crushed
8-10 sticks cinnamon, broken up a bit, 2-3 inches long
4 Tbsp. chopped candied ginger
10-12 strips orange peel, pared very thinly with veggie peeler
Big jug of burgundy wine, any brand is okay
1 cup sugar
Raisins and blanched slivered almonds for garnish
Place first 5 ingredients into a cheesecloth bag. In a big pot,
mix wine and sugar together and drop cloth bag into mix. Bring
wine to a point just before boiling, but do NOT boil. Turn off heat,
cover and let stand at least 12 hours. Pour into bottles.
Makes 16 servings for party, or gifts of 3-4 bottles. If gifting, instruct recipient to heat slowly until just hot enough to still sip comfortably;
do NOT boil. Ladle into cups, pouring over 1 Tbsp raisins and almonds in each cup. This warm Swedish drink is traditionally served around
4-5pm on a cold winter afternoon, with little spoons to scoop up the
raisins and almonds. Makes a lovely Christmas gift and is a holiday
tradition for my family.
