When I think of vellum I usually think of white vellum, which brought me to a great embossing folder I own by Stampin' Up! (SU) called "Softly Falling". I thought it would be great embossed on white vellum... and it is!!! Since vellum has the disadvantage of showing adhesives through, I chose to attach it to my SU Real Red card base by using a stencil brush which I lightly dabbed in glue, then spread thinly over the entire back of the vellum after I had embossed it. I IMMEDIATELY glued it down since the thin coating of glue would dry quickly.
The center piece is a retired stocking stamp from SU that I first inked with Versamark, then SU Real Red ink and stamped on white cardstock using my SU Stamparatus stamp positioner. I did this because, as I suspected, such a larger area of solid color required that I stamp the image twice. I cleaned the stamp off after the first stamping, then inked again with Versamark and red ink and stamped a second time. Immediately, I poured clear embossing powder on the stocking and heat set with my heat gun until it was glossy. I then punched it out with the matching SU stocking punch.
I die cut a white oval with stitching all around the edge, then die cut a gold glittery scalloped oval to serve as the matting. The stocking was mounted on the white oval using foam tape.
I wanted the white oval to stand up a bit above the white circle, so I used adhesive foam tape to mount it. Likewise, I wanted the white oval to stand up a bit above its sparkly gold matting, so I die cut a piece of white craft foam using the same die I cut the oval with, and glued it to the back of the oval. Then glued the matted oval to the card front.
Since the TGIFC challenge required two of the stars-spots-sparkle elements, and I already had the embossed snow "spots", and the sparkly glitter matting, I added "sparkly spots" in the form of gold rhinestones to the stocking.
The card is simple, yet elegant in person. All the texture of the embossing, glittery matting, and rhinestones really give it a lot of texture! I am rating the difficulty of this card as a "2" out of a possible "5". There are only a few steps, and none of them are particularly difficult. As with all cards, the hard part is figuring out what you want to do!
I'm sure whomever receives it this holiday will know it was made with love and care!
