This card was made for a challenge that required the use of dies, and a magical theme. Right away I thought of the beautiful Stampin' Up! (SU) "Magical Mermaid" stamp set and the pretty undersea pattern paper called "Whale of a Time".
Since the theme was "magical" I thought the Sizzix Regal flip card die would be perfect. When you use the die it cuts the openings and scores the fold lines all at the same time! The fancy matting dies give a nice background to the circles I die cut with my Spellbinders circle dies for the front and back of the flip element.
After stamping the mermaid with black, I used my Copic alcohol markers to color her. I thought the use of the purple highlights would emphasize her shape against the light aqua scales. I fussy cut her out with paper snips, and to add depth cut two more roughly similar (but smaller) shapes to glue underneath her to raise her above the card surface.
Because of the careful die cutting of the pattern paper to keep the fish pattern continuous, and the fact that I hand colored and hand cut out the mermaid, I am rating the difficulty level as a "3" out of a possible "5".
