All of my friends and myself just automatically buy the re-inker when we order a new pad. They seem dry to us, too. I'm sure it it is a sales tactic. I keep buying them because I love their colors.

If you have the Stampin' Up pad, both sides come out and you can wash them in the sink with soap and water. Let them dry and snap them back in. If they get really bad, you can buy replacement pads....
